I came to ServInt after a chain of distasters with other companies and ServInt exceeded my expectations at every turn, really justifying the excellent reputation they have within the marketplace. Its a relief to be able to sleep soundly knowing the server is being managed by trained, experienced professionals.

1x1.gif

1x1.gif 1. What do I agree to when signing up? Are there contract lengths associated with your plans? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif When you sign up for service, you agree to our Acceptable Use Policies and standard Terms of Service, found here:
Acceptable Use Policy
Terms of Service
You also agree to a short Contract Term, which is written as follows:
"I understand that I am entering into a 'Month to Month' agreement, and will provide 30 days advance written notice should I elect to cancel my server contract."
1x1.gif
1x1.gif 2. Is there any payment method accepted other than credit card? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We prefer the use of credit cards to handle activation, as it allows you to go online quickly. We also accept wire transfers, money transfers, and checks. Please note that there may be additional fees for wire transfer payments, and there will be a waiting period for payment via check until the check clears. We also accept PayPal as payment. However, credit cards will certainly get you up and running in the fastest manner possible. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 3. What happens if I use all my bandwidth, storage, or IP addresses? Can I get more? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Surcharges for these extras are as follows: $1/month per 4 GB of additional bandwidth, $3/month per additional 1 GB of storage, and $1/month per IP address. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 4. What do you charge for SSL certificates? Can I have more than one certificate per VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We offer GeoTrust QuickSSL certificates at $100 per year. GeoTrust's QuickSSL Premium certificates are $125 a year and allow you to place an authentication logo on your website. We will assist you in installing either GeoTrust certificate. Alternately, you are free to bring and install your own SSL certificates. We are unable to assist you in setting up self-signed certificates. You can get more than one certificate per VPS, so long as you have separate IPs for each certificate. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 5. Are there any charges associated with adding a domain, domain parking, domain registration, etc.? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Since this is effectively a Dedicated Server, you can add as many domains as you wish. You can park as many domains as you care to, and neither will cost you any additional fees. You can register domains, and normal charges apply. Use your favorite registrar, or visit ServIntdomains.com for $10/year domains. If you use a control panel, there are easy options that will allow you to add and park domains. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 6. Do you offer domain registration and if so, what are your prices? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Currently, our domain registration prices are $10/year. Visit ServIntdomains.com for further details. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 7. Do you offer a money back guarantee? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We do not have a money back guarantee. We feel that our longstanding reputation lends significant credibility to our service, and we provide exactly what we promise. We did a trial offer of a money back guarantee, and found that some people attempted to exploit it by using our service just long enough to cancel without paying. Some even abused it further by performing illegal activities such as spamming, which also hurt our other customers. We want to ensure we're focusing our time and energy on reliable, paying customers who deserve our attention. We trust that once you've become a customer you'll be happy we protect you in such a way. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 8. Can I get a trial period and test out the VPS for free? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif This is not something that we can offer. It has been our experience that offering "free test accounts" opens our network and customers to a number of potential security risks. There really isn't a reliable way to screen a potential customer from a resourceful hacker, outside of having received a payment. We have tried offering free trial accounts in the past and have found that it attracts Internet abusers such as spammers who jump from network to network quickly, staying long enough to cause damage to legitimate customers. Though surely many legitimate users would benefit from a trial period and decide to stay, we must focus our attention on policies that best protect our existing customers. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 9. When will I be billed, and what does my billing period cover? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif VPS bills all run from the beginning of the month through the end of the month. Since you pay your first bill in full when signing up, your second bill will be prorated so that you are not billed before your account is up. Invoices go out around the 21st of each month for the following month. Although your base bill is prebilled, your overages are calculated from the 21st of one month through the 20th of the next and are post billed. For example, your March bill will go out around February 21st and will have any overages from the January 21st - February 20th time period. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 10. Do you have any prepayment options? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif In addition to being able to select a month-to-month payment method on our VPS Order Form, you will also have the option of signing up for a 6-month, or annual prepayment. We offer a 5% discount on the entire contract value of service to individuals who prepay for 6 months, and 10% for customers who prepay for a year. There are no prepayment discounts for add-ons such as licensing of third-party software, IPs, bandwidth overages or SSL certificates. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 11. Do you offer a less expensive VPS than the Essential VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The Essential VPS at $49/month is indeed our least-expensive VPS offering. We're well aware that some of our competitors have less expensive VPS products, but we are confident that our value justifies our pricing. After well over a decade in business, we understand what it takes to provide great service, and feel strongly that dropping our prices would sacrifice one of quality, performance, or managed services at the very least. This is something we are unwilling to do. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 12. How long should I expect my VPS setup to take? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif VPS setups happen within 24 hours of sign-up, assuming payment is properly processed. During the normal Monday-Friday workday (9-5 EST) most VPS turn-ups happen within just a few hours. Unlike our technical departments, which never close, our order processing department, as well as our sales and billing offices, do maintain business office hours. While those offices are closed, turn-ups are processed less frequently, but still multiple times each day. No matter when you sign up, we are able to get you online quickly. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 13. Why do I need to supply a subdomain as my primary domain and why can't I use www.mydomain.com? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The Control Panels used by ServInt require that a subdomain be used as the primary account name. This subdomain is used to register the Control Panel, and alternately as one way for ServInt to uniquely identify each server. cPanel in particular has documented problems when users utilize 'www' as a third level domain. Therefore, we strongly recommend alternate subdomains, such as vps.mydomain.com, server.mydomain.com, or any third level domain other than www.mydomain.com. Of course, you will still be able to configure www.mydomain.com in your web server. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 14. What does Managed Services mean? How much hand-holding can I expect? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif What Managed Services means is that we accept complete responsibility for everything installed and delivered with your VPS. We maintain responsibility for the integrity of your data, including free restores if you experience even a full data loss of your VPS. We can also patch and upgrade the OS, as well as primary applications such as Apache, PHP, and MySQL when necessary. We answer lots of questions, and try to help in every way.

We make sure that what you were provided works, and stays working. When it comes to what you do with it afterwards, we will do our very best to help you out if you run into trouble. We simply cannot guarantee support for third party scripts and applications added to a server. There are thousands of 3rd party applications, and when they are added, it introduces millions of variables and millions of possible issues associated with those variables. Not all of these are foreseeable or easy to fix, nor are they necessarily fixable at all.

While we support all standard server applications, we are unable to support every 3rd party application that exists. Committing to install, support, patch, upgrade, and fix everything from A to Z, including many things we have never seen or heard of, and many things that just simply may not work, is not realistic. Though we have to draw the line somewhere - when we do, we still do our best to point you in the right direction. We will never leave you hanging without anywhere to turn.

Even so, we do our best to help out on the VPS forums to troubleshoot common problems and help our clients get past such issues. Resources exist within our forums covering hundreds of third party applications, and thousands of members are available to share their experiences. Though we have to draw the line somewhere - when we do, we still do our best to point you in the right direction. We'll never leave you hanging without anywhere to turn.

1x1.gif
1x1.gif 15. Do you offer lease-to-own options on this or any of your products? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We do not offer lease-to-own services. We believe this is bad practice, as in the end, you become responsible for the replacement of your own hardware, and if it becomes obsolete, you're back to buying another server. By allowing ServInt to maintain ownership of the hardware, you free yourself to upgrade as you please, as well as avoid liability for costs of replacement hardware. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 16. Does ServInt's Managed Services cover software installations such as Zend, Ioncube, MySQL, Python, etc, or will we need to do this ourselves? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We cover some basic software installations, and if you choose to use cPanel, you have the ability to select and deselect software easily on your own. Typically, basic Linux knowledge and a willingness to learn is all that is required in order to install most software on your own. Our NOC will be happy to help you install whatever software you need, but please note that we cannot support all 3rd party software that exists. There is simply far too much of it out there. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 17. How much server management can we expect from ServInt? Can we assume you will be able to manage all our server administration needs, or will we need an additional administrator? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif You can expect a reasonable level of server management, but we are not a replacement for your need to be involved. Our Managed Services do not keep you from having to work by day, they just let you sleep at night. We do not configure cPanel, we don't define your packages or install skins and themes. You still need to operate your business, but we will keep it running. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 18. Can you tell us a little bit about your network and data facilities? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif ServInt operates multiple data facilities in the Northern Virginia region. For more details about ServInt's datacenter facilities, click here. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 19. I don't speak English. Do you offer support in my language? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We do not have a large enough number of non-English-speaking employees to offer satisfactory support in any language other than English at this time. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 20. Do you offer a control panel (skin) in my language? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Non-English language Skins are available from individual control panel manufacturers. Both Plesk and cPanel are equipped to give you the power to change all text displayed to whatever you want. The Plesk Control Panel offers the option of adding language packs for a small fee. If you're using cPanel/WHM, check out this page, and the links on this page, for more information:

http://www.cpanel.net/docs/whm/Languages.htm

You are able to not only incorporate a foreign language text, but also retain the English text. Effectively showing all text twice, once in each language, resulting in a bilingual skin if you so choose. Additionally, ServInt offers special deals on RVSkin, which offers support in 20 languages for cPanel customers. More information can be found by clicking here.

1x1.gif
1x1.gif 21. If I put anything into the 'Special Setup Specifications' field on your sign-up form, will you do it for me? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Special setup requests are subject to approval and may cause slight delay in processing. Please be as specific as possible with your requests. If you need us to install particular software for you, we will try our best to help, however we cannot guarantee that every type of third-party software will work. Be sure to include a link to the relevant software along with a list of installation instructions. If you need to know whether a specific request can be accommodated ahead of time, we suggest that you secure prior approval by contacting our sales department. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 22. Is it OK to run Tomcat on my VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif You can have us install Tomcat on a ServInt VPS, and it should operate correctly as long as you have the resources of at least a Signature VPS. An Essential VPS does not have the available resources to run Tomcat. Please be warned that Tomcat is Java based, and Java tends to take up all available RAM and CPU resources and in almost any virtual environment, potentially making your VPS quite slow. We make sure that you are not negatively affecting other customers, but your own experience may be less than ideal. You may end up having an OK experience, but we do not recommend running Tomcat in any virtual environment other than our VPSpro packages. Still, it is your decision, and in a Signature or Ultimate VPS package you may certainly use Tomcat if you so choose. It is simply not something we advise unless you are planning on using one of ServInt's VPSpro packages. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 23. Do you allow open proxies on your VPS products? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif No, we do not. Proxies are allowed but they must be restricted access proxies, or must reside on one of our dedicated server products. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 24. What is a VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif A Virtual Private Server is one of several isolated server environments that happen to exist within a large and powerful physical server. Think of it like a condominium with all the amenities of your own house, which just happens to be a part of a larger structure.

With a VPS, you get your own secure hosting environment, complete with root access, and the ability to install and configure whatever you desire within your environment. Although there is more than one virtual server on each machine, there is no way for other users to see your VPS or even know that you are there.

1x1.gif
1x1.gif 25. What are the VPSpro packages? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The VPS Plus packages are dedicated or semi-dedicated servers, but we run Virtuozzo on them. This means they get all of the advantages of a dedicated server, but also all the advantages of a VPS. One of the best benefits of our VPS Plus Servers is that we can upgrade your VPS with very little interruption of service (typically just a few minutes of downtime) and absolutely no involvement by you, or changes to your configuration. You keep the same IP addresses, accounts, and other information, as well as all installed software. It is virtually the same as upgrading from an Essential VPS to a Signature VPS. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 26. What is The Deuce? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The Deuce is one of ServInt's VPSpro products. It is a server shared between two VPSs. As with all of ServInts VPSpro products, you can easily migrate to it from a smaller package. All server resources are shared equally between two virtual environments, giving the user even more resources than those available on ServInts VPS platform, but for not much additional cost. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 27. What is The Solo? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The Solo is one of ServInt's VPSpro products. It is a Dedicated Server, but we run Virtuozzo on it and can easily migrate your VPS to it without any intervention on your part. If your site is growing and you want all of your resources to be dedicated exclusively to your own use, the Solo may be right for you. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 28. Can I compile my own Kernel on your VPS plans? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif No. We use Virtuozzo for hosting our VPS product. Virtuozzo's technology relies on a highly-tuned, vendor-supplied, customized kernel to provide virtualization services to each account. As such, each account is not running its own kernel, but seeing a virtualized environment provided by the kernel of the VPS host server. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 29. What is Virtuozzo Power Panel? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Virtuozzo is the technology on which the ServInt VPS is built. Every ServInt VPS client will have access to Virtuozzo Power Panel, which provides the user with certain self-administration tools such as the ability to reboot the VPS on command. The Virtuozzo Power Panel is an addition to, and not a substitution for any Control Panel you may choose to use. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 30. My current site is hosted under some OS other than CentOS, and I would like to know if you offer that OS or only CentOS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Right now, we only support CentOS. The magic of the VPS is in the Virtuozzo software and Kernel. Unlike other technologies that purport to offer a server-like environment, it is a true server-class, robust, production-level product. Because of that, we can only run CentOS on CentOS. Right now we are installing CentOS 4 on all VPS systems, and a stable CentOS core on all host systems. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 31. My current OS is FreeBSD. If only CentOS is available, can you please summarize the main differences between FreeBSD and CentOS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif If you have skills navigating through a FreeBSD system, you're halfway to being able to do the same with Linux. However, there are certainly differences. You will notice right away that some files are stored in different places, but you will find that most of the programs do overlap. Those that don't generally have a program with an equivalent function. It may take a bit of time to learn, but if you know how to do it with FreeBSD, learning how to do it with Linux should not be too difficult a task. You will have our NOC as well as our VPS Forum Community to help you on your way. Plus, if you are using a control panel, most things are done on the front-end anyway. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 32. I am currently hosted on a virtual/reseller package running cPanel. Is the cPanel/WHM you offer for VPS the same one I am currently using? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Because this is a dedicated server product and not a virtual/reseller product, there are some things to keep in mind. If you're using cPanel/WHM, you'll need to do things you wouldn't normally have to do in a reseller package, such as configure the nameservers in WHM. We can certainly help, but if you have not worked with a full version of cPanel/WHM before, be prepared for a learning curve, and certainly allow yourself several days to get familiar with the functionality, and get yourself set to move in. Many people who use reseller accounts are switching to our VPS, with an expectation that it will be the exact same environment, but it is not. On the VPS, you have a great deal more freedom and power, but with power comes responsibility. ServInt's support staff can work with customers to answer many questions, and we also assist in the ServInt VPS Forums with things like this, but you are still responsible for deciding what you do within cPanel/WHM, and this takes a certain amount of experience and understanding of the server environment as well as your individual needs. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 33. Can we set up our own nameservers? If so, are there any charges associated with this? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The VPS is a dedicated product, meaning it is unlike a reseller account. You have root access to your server, you have full administrative access (and responsibilities) to the control panel, and all the advantages those two capabilities bring. You are able to do with your server what you would like, including setting up your own nameservers. Our NOC is able to help you with the basic initial setup of your nameservers if you don't know how. If you prefer to do it on your own, we can still help you as much as possible and try to make it easy for you. You are still responsible for what you do with your server and how you ultimately configure it. We are, however, always there to help.

If you're using the cPanel control panel, you will need to run your own nameservers, which you will be able to configure in WHM. We can certainly help you get them set up if needed. The important thing to note is that if you have not worked with a full version of your chosen control panel before, be prepared for a learning curve. Our Managed Services Team is top-notch, though, and we can certainly point you in the right direction. The NOC as well as the VPS User Forums should be able to help.

1x1.gif
1x1.gif 34. If I need help setting up my nameservers or any other aspect of my account, where else can I turn? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Our Network Operations team can help to guide you in the right direction. ServInt maintains a VPS Forum available only to ServInt VPS customers. We do our best to assist in the ServInt VPS Forums with anything and everything having to do with hosting on a VPS. Better still, users contribute their experience and knowledge, and help each other achieve common goals. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 35. Do I have to use a shared MySQL server or will we have our own MySQL server on our VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Every ServInt VPS comes default with MySQL preinstalled. Because this is a dedicated product, every one of your applications is your very own to configure as you see fit. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 36. Do you sub-license Virtuozzo for use in our own Dedicated Servers? Can we order through your firm at a discounted rate? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif At this point, due to the incredible administrative overhead of properly managing Virtuozzo, we're not offering Virtuozzo-based servers for resellers looking to create their own VPS products. (Yet.) We do, however, have Virtuozzo-based Dedicated and Semi-Dedicated server products, known as our VPSpro packages. These packages offer an excellent upgrade path from our traditional VPS product line. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 37. Is there anything I can't install on the VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We obviously cannot promise that every piece of known software will work on a VPS. However, you may attempt to install any piece of software as long as it is compatible and allowed by our AUP. Please note that it is not possible to install applications that require kernel modifications in order to operate. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 38. Can I use your nameservers instead of running my own? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We ask that cPanel customers run their own DNS, as it tends to make cPanel perform better. All other customers may feel free to make use of our nameservers at no additional charge. Simply send any nameserver request to our NOC, and it will be handled quickly. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 39. Will you back up my files? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Your files will be backed up automatically. This will be done daily, and is completely free of charge. You are welcome to request account or individual file restoration from a previous backup at any time, this is also free of charge. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 40. Can you explain how file backups are done? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif ServInt performs daily backups of all files on the VPS. Every month, a complete file backup is done. Differential backups are then done at regular intervals throughout the month. Our backup system has complete granularity--we can restore the entire VPS, or drill down to a single file. Depending on how recently the full monthly backup has been done on your VPS, you may also have up to three distinct time periods, also known as restore points, from which to choose to restore your files. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 41. Does this mean that I do not need to back up my own files? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif No. We have complete confidence in our robust and reliable backup system. Nonetheless, we always recommend that customers take additional steps to periodically back up their files locally on their own machines. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 42. What do you mean by 'burst RAM'? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Bursting means that while you are always guaranteed a certain amount of system resources, far more is available on each box than simply these guarantees. Hence, should you require your loads to spike higher than your guarantees, as long as the resources are available on the box at that time, you can use them, up to your 'burst' level. We are constantly monitoring the loads of each server to make sure that nothing is oversold, and that customers always have their guaranteed resources.

We make sure that an ample amount of burst resources are always available on each host machine. Your burst allottment is not the same thing as your resource guarantee. You cannot count on constant, sustained utilization of your burst resources. If your VPS constantly requires greater resources than your package guarantees, we can work with you to quickly upgrade you to a package with greater guaranteed resources.

1x1.gif
1x1.gif 43. On the Solo products, why doesn't burst RAM equal guaranteed RAM? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Because like any Dedicated Server, the system requires resources to operate. These administrative resources used by the system and by Virtuozzo will be able to be used by you as burst resources when they are available. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 44. What are Control Panels and what are they used for? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Control Panels are often used by resellers and webmasters responsible for multiple websites. They can be very useful in providing a feature-rich environment for your users or webmasters, but they do require some getting used to. ServInt offers cPanel and Plesk as Control Panels in its Virtual Private Server environments. Though we typically recommend using the one you are most familiar with, ServInt can advise you as to which Control Panel, if any, is right for you.

For people with traditional needs, you can take better advantage of ServInt's managed services by choosing against installing a Control Panel, and allowing ServInt's support staff to manage your daily server needs. We are always pleased to assist you in any way that we can.

1x1.gif
1x1.gif 45. What Control Panels does ServInt offer on its VPS products, and what do they cost? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif ServInt offers cPanel/WHM and Plesk as Control Panels. Each is free of charge. Only one Control Panel can be used on a single VPS. For more information on cPanel/WHM, visit http://www.cpanel.net, or http://www.swsoft.net/plesk to learn more about Plesk. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 46. Can we pay you extra to manage our control panel, run our nameservice and in general be our website administrator? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif In general, if you need our help, we will do what we can. If you need something done on the control panel, we will be happy to help, and if you need us to place entries in your nameserver, we can do that as well. Of course, there are limits to what we are able to do, but we are sure you do not expect or want us to run your entire business. We're always there to help, but at the same time we are an extension and enhancement of your knowledge and understanding of your site, we are not a replacement of it. There will be some things you will want to have control of yourself, and for those things, you will need to read the manuals and docs, familiarize yourself with your control panel if you chose one, work with it, setup the reseller accounts, define packages, and get yourself going. Our forums should help you out a lot. Budget a few days to get yourself up to speed, and do not expect to start moving customers in right away. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 47. Will we always be upgraded to the latest cPanel/WHM version? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We do not automatically upgrade you except in the rare circumstance when a patch simply will not do, and an upgrade is necessary from a security perspective. However, you will have the ability to upgrade yourself at any time. Our base installations are done off of the STABLE cPanel tree. With the VPS, we "template" much of the OS and cPanel to reduce your disk space overhead. It is within your power to switch to another tree, such as the more progressive RELEASE tree. Keep in mind that when you do so, it will update a number of things, and take up more of your disk space as you move further from what was templated for you. When new cPanel versions come out, information will be in the VPS Customer Forums about what you may have to do, if anything, to bring yourself up-to-date. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 48. When cPanel supported software fails, do you proactively fix it or do we have to fix it ourselves? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We monitor your server, and can monitor services on the server as well. By default we monitor the server (ICMP) and the Apache webserver (HTTP) to make sure that both are properly functioning at all times. You can request for us to monitor additional services such as HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, POP, NNTP, DNS, and there is no extra cost for this. When we see something break that we are monitoring, we login and fix it. Because cPanel technicians know their software best, we occasionally do turn to cPanel technicians for assistance in resolving problems that we are unable to. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 49. I am currently on a cPanel/WHM server. Can you transfer my account to a ServInt VPS server? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif As a responsible hosting provider, we are aware of the legal repercussions of logging into other providers' networks and removing files. Though we cannot physically do the transfer for you, with our help you will be able to do this on your own, quickly and easily. Control Panels make account transfers simple these days. Doing a WHM to WHM transfer, for instance, is quite simple, and shouldn't give you any trouble. WHM actually has a "Transfers" feature that is designed to transfer sites from one cPanel machine to another. Check out http://www.cpanel.net/docs/whm/Transfers.htm for some basic reading material, and to get an idea of how it works. Other configurations are just as simple to accomplish. We are there to guide you, and to assist you if you run into any problems. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 50. Which is better, cPanel or Plesk? Can I get both? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Both cPanel and Plesk take over much of the application functionality of the server. Because both would be wrestling for control of the same resources, it is impossible to have both Plesk and cPanel on the same VPS at the same time. It is difficult to assess which, then, is better, as a lot depends on what you are looking to do with it. We can say that cPanel is more popular, has more 'helper' apps written for it, and since it has such a larger install base, there are far more support resources for its use. However, it really does come down to a matter of personal preference. Some customers who get two or more VPSs end up getting at least one of each so that they have a broader product offering for their own clients. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 51. What type of content am I allowed to place on the VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif We allow legal content. You're not allowed to send SPAM or host any content that would be illegal in the U.S. You may not run IRC BOTs or utilize any network unfriendly devices commonly used to attack other network users. Your network activity must fall within the scope of our Acceptable Use Policies:

http://www.servint.net/contact/aup.php

1x1.gif
1x1.gif 52. What is your policy regarding server loads? Will you move VPS accounts to different servers if the original servers become overloaded? What server loads do you consider to be acceptable? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Moving VPS accounts is quick, painless, and easy. We balance customers between servers, moving as necessary, to ensure the best user experience possible. We've been in business for well over a decade, and it isn't worth our reputation to try to squeeze a few extra customers onto one server. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 53. How many clients will you put on the same VPS server? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif In our VPSpro packages, only one or two clients are placed on each box, depending on the type of product. For our standard VPS products, we aren't setting a number for how many VPSes will go on a single server. This is for the protection of our customers. We feel that if we say "XYZ VE's per server" that may turn out to be too large a number on one machine, and too small a number on another. Rather than choosing a number, we rely upon the educated engineering decisions made by our VPS Project Team designed to give everyone the same top-notch experience. If there are a bunch of power-users on the machine using system resources, there will be few users on that machine. If nobody is doing anything at all, there will be more. We are fully prepared to remove VPS accounts from a busy box and place them on a new or idle box. Because we can move a VPS from one server to another in minutes, with only a brief downtime to the customer, our team can keep the loads under control so the end-user experience is always optimal. Our goal is very very long-term here, and the only way we can reach our goal is with 100% happy customers. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 54. Can I resell webspace on your VPS package? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Yes! You can certainly resell space with the VPS. In fact, many of our new customers are resellers, typically moving from a reseller package on someone else's dedicated server. Do keep in mind that if you are used to using a control panel, such as cPanel/WHM or Plesk in a reseller environment, you will have a few extra things to configure. This is because our VPS is just like a physical dedicated server. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 55. Does the server come with dedicated IPs for each site added, and if so, how many? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The product comes with 4 IPs. If you're using cPanel, for example, this gives you a primary IP, 2 nameserver IPs, and another IP you can use to setup your virtual hosts. Alternately, you can set your host IP, their primary DNS server, and your shared hosting IP to be the same, your 2nd DNS server as the 2nd IP, and have 2 free. We suggest you do name-based virtual hosting, which allows you to use one IP for many domains. There's no quality advantage to using multiple IPs, and it makes administration easier. However, should you require more IPs, extra IPs are available for $1/month each. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 56. How many IPs can I get on my VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif All VPS accounts include 4 free IP addresses. A single VPS can have a maximum of 32 IP addresses. Therefore, up to 28 additional IPs can be purchased for your VPS at a monthly rate of $1 per additional IP. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 57. Can I host as many accounts as I want on my VPS? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The short answer is yes, but the long answer is a bit more complex. If you choose to use a control panel, you will be granted an unlimited software license and can set up as many accounts as you wish. However, that does not mean that every package has the physical resources capable of hosting infinite accounts. We grant you enough resources to set up an ample number of accounts at each package level, but you will find that once you reach a certain level, you will require more resources in order to add further accounts. The types of resources you need will depend on the types of sites you are hosting, and the individual resource requirements of those sites. Because of this, it is difficult to arrive at a specific number of sites you can expect to host. That being said, if an upgrade is ever required, we make the process quick and easy. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 58. Will we be able to easily upgrade to a larger VPS package at a later date? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif Upgrading all the way to the Ultimate package, or to one of our VPSpro packages, requires no effort on your part. We can retain your IP numbers and when migrating from one VPS package to another it won't actually cost anything except the change in the package price beginning the day of the upgrade. We typically transfer an upgrading account from one host server to another, to ensure the upgraded account is on the most suitable host server to provide the maximum benefit of the new resource limits. This migration process is generally a painless task resulting in only a short window of downtime, all thanks to a well planned back-end. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 59. What if I want a larger package than the Ultimate VPS Package? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif The VPSpro packages are perfect upgrade paths for the standard ServInt VPS packages. The VPS Deuce server is a powerful semi-Dedicated option, and the VPS Solo a fully Dedicated environment. Ther benefit of both products is that your VPS can be migrated to them with no data loss and minimal downtime. No matter how big your site grows, there are plenty of options to help you continue to grow with it. Even if you require something more than these powerful products can offer, talk to us about your needs and surely we can find a package for you. We may be able to place you into an excellent Dedicated Server offering. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 60. Will we be able to install whatever control panel themes we want? Will you install server-wide licenses for them? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif You are certainly able to install whatever themes you wish. Additionally, if you purchase a ServInt VPS with cPanel/WHM you can take advantage of special pricing for the purchase of two popular cPanel skin and enhancement programs, Fantastico De Luxe for a yearly licensing fee of $12 and RVSkin for a yearly licensing fee of $20. Your initial fee will be assessed at signup and then renewed yearly on your behalf. 1x1.gif
1x1.gif 61. Do you offer any premium log analytics or statistics programs with your servers (i.e.: Urchin) free of charge? Are there any discounted rates we can receive in regards to this? 1x1.gif
1x1.gif As of this time, the only stats being offered are the ones that come with the Control Panel. However, please let us know what statistics programs you have used effectively in the past, as there is a good chance we will seek to add this functionality sometime in the future. Your input is helpful. 1x1.gif
