VPS Basics

What is a virtualization layer? Is it a free addition?

A virtualization layer, as with a VPS (or virtual private server), allows multiple customers to be housed on the same physical serve with each client having a “private” area on the server to which critical resources are assigned. The performance of one customer’s site does not impact the performance of other sites in a different partition. Also, the number of private areas on each server is limited, ensuring that resources are not over-leveraged.

ServInt uses Virtuozzo to accomplish this virtualization. The full name of Virtuozzo is “Parallels Virtuozzo Containers.” It is an operating system-level virtualization software package created by Parallels, Inc. Virtuozzo allows a hosting provider to create virtual environments that are independent of individual hardware. The name “containers” is appropriate, as you can think of your hosted environment as being self-contained and not wedded to its hosting hardware. With Virtuozzo, your host environment is flexible, and even mobile.

ServInt uses Virtuozzo on both our Cloud VPS and Flex VPS platforms.
